The ocean front village of Huntington Beach sometimes known as "Surf City," started out with the name "Pacific City" in 1906. It's a Southern California Pacific Coast community situated along 8 miles of northern Orange County coastline. This charming south coast community with its downtown neo Spanish Colonial flavor offers beach lovers some of the most renowned and pristine beaches found anywhere in the world! Well-established now for over 100 years, Huntington Beach includes not only the main Huntington State Beach, but also two other beaches: Bolsa Chica State Beach and Huntington Beach Pier -- four beaches if you include an area just north of the pier called "The Cliffs," or more recently "Dog Beach."

Huntington State Beach is a gorgeous wide, straight beach that runs along the south edge of Pacific Coast Highway and is situated between Brookhurst Street and Beach Boulevard. This is the main beach, with extensive public (paid for) parking and is open to the public between 6:00AM and 10:00PM year round. There are no homes located directly on the sand at Huntington State Beach. However, just to the south of HSB, at the border with Newport Beach, just across the river, and on the east bank of the Santa Ana River, you will find homes right on the sand, that feature a view of Huntington State Beach.

Bolsa Chica State Beach also runs along the southern edge of Pacific Coast Highway and extends from Goldenwest Street to Warner Avenue. Bolsa Chica S.B. hours are also from 6:00AM to 10:00PM. Camping reservations for beach front RV hookups are also available, with good facilities and spectacular ambiance for visitors and local homeowners alike. If there is a little bit of the naturalist in you, you'll love spending time walking through the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Nature Preserve and Bird Sanctuary, within yards of Bolsa Chica State Beach. Visitors to this unique area frequently see Blue Herons and other rare, exotic species of birds in their natural habitat.

The world-famous Huntington Beach Pier is located at Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street. This is where all the action is. For the new homeowner in Huntington Beach, the pier area alone will provide enough territory to explore for dozens of weekends. There's good eating -- from great restaurants and fast food to traditional hot dogs -- along the boardwalk (actually, it's concrete). The scenery is fantastic! Numerous events -- including the world renowned annual Huntington Beach Open surf competition -- alway draw international competitors from around the world.

"The Cliffs," or "Huntington Cliffs," is also known as "Dog Beach." Can you guess why?! This section of beach sits just north of the Huntington Beach pier and is located between Goldenwest Street and Sea Point Avenue. You can come to The Cliffs a bit earlier than the other beaches: 5:00AM. Dog Beach is one of the few beaches around where you can run your pet without a leash and enjoy the ambiance of beach city living, as well as a morning or afternoon running free with your dog at the water's edge. If you are a dog lover, you'll love Dog Beach!
